Pupil has new drummer

Ely Buendia’s band Pupil has a new drummer in Wendell Garcia, formerly of Barbie’s Cradle. Garcia made his first public appearance with the band during their gig at Hard Rock Café in Makati last July 26. Yan Yuzon, Pupil’s guitarist, in a letter posted at the band’s yahoogroup, confirmed that Bogs Jugo has left the band to pursue other things “that require less active band involvement." “He left to pursue these things without getting in the way of the band's schedule, or without the band's schedule getting in the way of such things. He was a good comrade and our best wishes are due him," he said. Pupil is Buendia’s second band after he left the hugely popular group Eraserheads. Jugo has been with Pupil from the time the band was still being conceptualized. He was also the drummer of the defunct Mongols together with Buendia, Yuzon and Jerome Velasco. Yuzon said Boga, as he is fondly called, expressed desire to quit from the band summer of this year. “But did what he could to ensure a smooth transition for the band into its current new lineup. This transition is now complete, and we are ready to be rediscovered by all you members of the Pupil community in our current form," he said. Yan said Garcia has been with the band for some time and played on all the new songs on their upcoming second album. “As we wish Boga luck on all his future endeavors, let us welcome our new brother with a bang…," he said. Among the hit songs of Pupil from their first album, “Beautiful Machines," were Nasaan Ka, Dianetic, Dulo ng Dila and Gamu-gamo. The band also composed and played Animax’s theme song “Set Me Apart". “The theme song celebrates being different, having your own style and embraces individualism," according to Animax website.
