Catholic Social Media Summit in Sta. Rosa to feature Maine Mendoza, Wally Bayola

Television personality Maine Mendoza and comedian Wally Bayola — Yaya Dub and Lola Nidora on Eat Bulaga's KalyeSerye segment —  will be guests at the Catholic Social Media Summit in Sta. Rosa, Laguna on Oct. 10 and 11.

According to an article posted on the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines news website, the gathering of social media communicators, bloggers, photographers, and writers will be held at the Sta. Rosa City Hall Auditorium Building A.

The social media summit will be Mendoza's first public appearance since becoming a celebrity on both TV and on social media. The summit will focus on spreading the Christian Gospel through the power of social media.

Msgr. Pedro Quitorio, CBCP Media Office director lauded the KalyeSerye series for being unique as it promote good values.

“I like the whole production itself because it teaches us the right marriage values… very Christian values. And we are hoping that this will not change,” he said.

Organized by YouthPinoy, a group of “online missionaries,” the summit was first held in 2012 with Manila Archbishop Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle as keynote speaker. This year, the summit will be held in partnership with the Diocese of San Pablo.

The fourth social media summit will feature the launch of the Catholic Social Media Awards established by the CBCP Media Office and the Areopagus Communications, Inc., to instill a sense of responsibility in online communicators.

Meanwhile, San Pablo Bishop Buenaventura Famadico called on the clergy, social communication ministry workers, and students to register and be part of the event.

“This would give us an opportunity to let others know how vibrant our local church is as well as be able to showcase what our diocese can offer,” he said.

Among the speakers include Sean Patrick Lovett, who heads the Vatican Radio English Section. He is also a professor of Communications at the Jesuit-run Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

The event is open to social media enthusiasts, the youth, clergy, missionaries, and communicators. — JDS, GMA News
