Robin Padilla surrenders high-powered firearms to police
Actor Robin Padilla on Friday surrendered four high-powered firearms to the police, noting his expired license.
In an Instagram post, GMA News reporter Nelson Canlas said Padilla personally surrendered the firearms to the Explosives Office of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Civil Security Group in Camp Crame.
"Nakikinig tayo sa advice ng ating lawyer," said Padilla, who served a two-year prison sentence in the late 90s for possession of illegal weapons. "Mas maganda na maayos namin na walang armas sa bahay ko."
Padilla, a popular action star in the 90s known for his 'bad boy' roles, said he is merely following the law, specifically Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act.
"Wala naman sigurong gustong bumalik sa Bilibid lalo na sa sitwasyon ngayon, masyadong sikat ang Bilibid. Masyadong ding sikat ang mga bala. Mahirap na masabit dyan," he said.
Padilla, a self-described gun collector, said most of his guns were used in his movies.
"Ang baril ay sport sa maraming tao. At ang baril po sa taong katulad ko ay collector. hindi po lahat ng may baril, may intensyong masama sa kapwa," he said.
Padilla's lawyer, Rudolf Philip Jurado, said the actor surrendered his weapons as his license was about to expire.
"Supposedly nag-expire last year pero nagkaroon ng extension 'yung PNP ng one year [na] magi-expire this coming December," Jurado said. "In the meantime, gusto namin, gusto ni Binoy, na wala munang problema habang ina-apply namin yun [lisensya] niya. —Jessica Bartolome/KBK, GMA News
