PHL trip reminds Pia Wurtzbach of road to Miss Universe
Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach said Tuesday that her visit to the Philippines reminded her of her journey towards winning the prestigious title.
In an interview after her courtesy call on President Benigno Aquino III in Malacañang, Wurtzbach told reporters that coming home to the Philippines had been “very humbling."
“Well, it's nice to be back home. It reminds me of everything that I had to go through to win Miss Universe. Seeing where I used to live, seeing my trainers, seeing Binibining Pilipinas,” Wurtzbach said.
“Seeing the Philippines, it just reminds me of the journey, the steps I took towards getting here and I think that in itself is very humbling already,” she added.
Wurtzbach joined the Binibing Pilipinas thrice before winning the right to represent the country at the Miss Universe pageant.
She arrived in Manila on Saturday and will return on January 31 to New York from where she will fulfill her duties as Miss Universe.
Asked how she keeps herself grounded, the beauty queen said she tried not to make everything about her.
“I talk to everybody, I ask them how they are doing. I try not to make it all about me, just about me but I want to get involved with other people as well and talk to them and communicate with them because information keeps going out but no information is coming in,” Wurtzbach said.
She also said that she hoped to give recognition that the Filipino women deserve.
“It's very good that we are finally getting the recognition that I think we deserve. So, I think, what that says about Filipinas is we are erasing that image that Filipinas are ‘not palaban’ when, in fact, we are,” Wurtzbach said.
“We go out there and we are brave and we are fearless. It's 2016 now so we are much more different from what people think we used to be. So, I think that speaks on how modern we are now,” she stresed.
Asked about the qualities she’s looking for in a man, Pia said: “Somebody who's smart with a good sense of humor. Those are the two qualities that are important to me.” -NB, GMA News
