‘Captain America: Civil War’ posts biggest Philippine opening weekend of all time
Marvel's newest American superhero film “Captain America: Civil War” made history as it opened with P362 million in its first five days of showing in Manila, making it the rightful holder of the “Biggest Opening Weekend of All Time” title in the Philippines.
This historic feat surpassed the P339.8 million box-office record of “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Marvel's masterpiece released last year.
The film, which tells of the Avengers' battle between opposing factions led by Chris Evans' Captain America and Robert Downey, Jr.'s Iron Man, arrived in more than 600 screen all over the Philippines on Wednesday, April 27.
“Captain America: Civil War” also introduced the Black Panther and the new Spider-Man into the Avengers assembly.
Aside from bagging the “Biggest Opening Weekend Of All Time” title, the film also smashed the P86.7 million-record of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” in a single day with its P87.9 million single day box-office record.
The Philippine opening of the film contributed to its $200.2 million gross during its first weekend of international release.
Other significant contributors include Mexico, United Kingdom, Brazil, and Australia.
Marvel's newest film breakthrough is set to open in the United States on May 6.
