Channing Tatum to summon his inner mermaid for ‘Splash’ remake
A report from Deadline.com states that Disney is going "full-speed" with their remake of the hit romantic comedy from 1984 "Splash"—but they're doing it with a gender swap.
Channing Tatum will star as the mermaid Madison, originally played by Daryl Hannah, while his "22 Jump Street" co-star Jillian Bell will star as the New Yorker Allen Bauer, played by Tom Hanks.
The original version of the film featured Hanks as a man who almost drowned in the ocean as a kid, but was saved by a bewitching mermaid. Twenty years later, the mermaid returns to look for the man she rescued and was given the choice to either continue living as a human in New York or have a new life with her in the ocean.
Ron Howard, the director of the original film will join forces with Brian Grazer in producing the story for the remake along with the script writer of the film Marja Lewis-Ryan.
