Direk Dominic Zapata flies across the galaxy for Zaido

After flying high with “Super Twins," Director Dominic Zapata extends his realm outside the galaxy in “Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan," the newest primetime show out to make history on Philippine TV. Dominic Zapata has become a household name, thanks to projects that are appreciated across age groups. After Super Twins, he no longer has qualms about venturing into another “campy" concept with Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan. “Parang masaya na ako nagayon, mas comportable na akong sa mga campy concepts." Zaido maybe campy but it definitely has strong roots as established by the Japanese sentai series Shaider. While Direk Dom admits that he was never a follower of the original show, he is keen on being true to its concept. “Kahit hindi ako Shaider fan, we have to respect the original and hopefully maintain some of the equities of the show," he stresses. The director notes discussing the Filipino spin-off with several Shaider fans and the basic requirements they noted were “Kailangan sumasayaw yung kalaban, yung robots, the motorcycles – (these are) all part of the equity." In the Zaido, some aspects are similar to the original but expect the story to be different. “Bago na! Nag-evolve na yung character. Ngayon, bloodline at successor sila ni Shaider," says Direk Dom. The GMA show involves the search of Gallian (Dennis Trillo) for his cousins Alexis (Marky Cielo) and Cervano (Aljur Abrenica). As Zaidos, they will eventually become the first line of defense from the evil forces of Kuuma Le-ar. Direk Dom notes that there will be many twists and turns in the story. It may sound like an action show but it’s actually a drama series for kids. “Pambata siya. Maganda yung storya, may puso…We’re not getting top-calibers (actors) if we’re not giving enough dramatic scenes," he adds. With Direk Dom’s unceasing enthusiasm and love for the industry, he is certain to keep us mesmerized with his groundbreaking ideas and vision. - iGMA.tv
