Arrest warrant out vs Teri Onor
A Quezon City court ordered the arrest of comedian-turned-politician Teri Onor for allegedly issuing a bouncing check as payment for a P200,000 loan. Onor, or Dexter Dominguez in real life, is currently vice mayor of Abucay town in Bataan. He was sued last February for violation of Batas Pambansa 22 or the Anti-Bouncing Check Law, not just for this transaction but over at least two other alleged bad loans. Radio dzBB said the Quezon City metropolitan trial court-Branch 43 ordered the city police, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the National Police's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to enforce Onor's arrest. Complainants Honorico and Ma. Luisa Mariano lodged three complaints against Onor before the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office last February. Onor issued the check for the P200,000-payment on March 27, 2006. Ma. Luisa is also demanding an additional P20,000 as interest for this check, which was supposed to mature in three months. As for the two other checks, Honorico said in his affidavit that Onor loaned P700,000 in two tranches on March 3 and 6 last year. It was allegedly payable in three months with P70,000 interest. The complainants said Onor issued two United Coconut Planters Bank (UCPB) checks on June 3 and 6 last year to cover his dues. However, UCPB refused to accept the checks when these were deposited upon reaching the maturity dates. The complainants alleged that they sent Onor a demand letter on November 8 last year, but the comedian allegedly ignored this. They added that Onor owed them a combined total of P990,000 inclusive of interest. Aside from amount under the three checks, they claimed that Onor also owed them about P1.68 million in other loans. Onor, who gained popularity by spoofing local showbiz superstar Nora Aunor, served as host of the Eat Bulaga noontime variety show before running for vice mayor. Eat Bulaga airs on GMA Network.
