Dina Bonnevie explains why she can relate to Babangon Ako at Dudurugin Kita

As a freelance actress, Dina has worked with various networks and says she likes the idea of not being tied to one channel. “If I could work with everybody, why not, di ba? Natutuwa lang ako na may tiwala pa rin sa akin ang GMA-7; binigyan pa rin ako ng project. Sa akin, there’s nothing wrong with working with everyone." In Babangon Ako at Dududrugin Kita, a 1989 Viva Films original [starring Sharon Cuneta, Christopher De Leon, Bembol Roco, and Hilda Koronel], Dina plays the role originally portrayed by the actress Mona Lisa. “Like all soaps [nowadays], you pick it up from the story of a movie na naging big hit dati, tapos medyo babaguhin lang nang konti. It so happens that [my character is] a member of a syndicate, not by choice, pero maybe because of reasons for survival." “[Sa story], parang namatay yung asawa niya (Ayokong sabihing ko, baka ma-imbibe ko, e!) and then yung mga kalaban ng asawa niya, gusto siyang patayin, so she has to protect herself. So tinuloy na rin niya yung pagiging sindikato. In the end, may magandang surprise kung bakit ako pala magpe-play ng role na yun. [It has something to do with] Yasmien Kurdi." Although she wasn’t able to watch the original movie, she says she’s familiar with it due to its popularity. “Of course, I heard a lot about it. Talagang blockbuster hit noong mga panahon na yun. Di ba, produced [pa] by Viva Films yun, and I was a Viva star? So alam ko yung movie." Aside from her last GMA show titled Narito Ang Puso Ko in 2003, Dina also did Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin (2000) as well as D! Day (1999) for the Kapuso Network. Vengeance isn’t ours Was there ever a time in Dina’s life when she uttered the words, “Babangon ako at dudurugin kita?" “Hay naku, maraming beses na sa buhay ko!" she exclaims with a laugh. “Pero alam mo, we ask ourselves, ‘Why do bad things happen to good people?’" “I mean, tumulong ka lang naman, gumawa ka ng kabutihan, and yet parang ikaw pa yung kinagat, ikaw pa yung niloko. Naku! Ilang beses na nangyari yan [sa akin]!" She recalls the time when she lent a friend some capital to put up a restaurant and yet she was never paid back. “Tinakbo yung pera ko, tinulungan [kong] magtayo ng restaurant mga friends ko dati, [but] they never paid me." She adds jokingly, “Sana nakikinig ka, sana bayaran mo na ako! Kung sino ka man! Nakatayo ka na ng apat na restaurants, magbayad ka, ha?" Another time was when she made an investment gone wrong. “Tumakbo, parang napunta yata yung pera ko sa Burgos, hindi ko alam kung bakit doon napunta! May ibang girl, na hay naku, very pangit!" she remarks with a grin. “So sometimes, gusto mong sabihin, ‘Can you please give me back my investment?’ Nakakahiya naman, bakit doon napunta yung negosyo, sa red light district?!" Refusing to be affected by the negative things that have happened before, she closes the topic: “Anyway, stuff like that. [They have happened] many, many times in my life talaga. I even said na siguro para sa akin, the worst year of my life was in 2005. Sobrang I lost a lot, talagang niloko ako nang sobra-sobra." She continues, “In all areas, ha? As in pati puso ko, aray ko! And sinabi ko, ‘Ay, babangon ako, dudurugin talaga kita! Gaganti ako!’ Talagang you always want to make ganti. Pero ilang beses mo rin mababasa sa Bible that vengeance is not yours. It’s God’s." “So hindi naman ‘Natutulog ang Diyos,’ which was my last soap [in ABS-CBN]!" she quips lightheartedly. Dina says she’d rather leave the punishment to God rather than inflict others’ suffering herself. “Kasi pag ang Diyos ang gumawa ng paraan para mapatino sila, hindi na nila makikilala kung saan nangagaling ang karma, or saan nanggagaling yung mabigat na nangyayari sa kanila. Whereas kung ikaw, magdadagdag ka pa ng pananagutan mo sa Diyos, kung bakit mo ginawa yan. Di ba? Wag ka na lang magkaroon ng sala. Be a kind person; sige sampalin mo pa ako, Diyos na ang bahala." She says this is the reason why she got good karma in the past two years [2006-2007]. “They have proven to be very, very good to me. Ang daming mga magagandang nangyari sa akin, hindi lamang mga TV shows, mga product endorsements -- pati sa negosyo, naging maganda. So I’m really very thankful and very happy na hindi rin ako talaga pinabayaan ng Diyos, kahit na alam niyang may lumapastangan sa akin na napakasakit!" She ends with a fulfilled sigh, “Nakabangon din." - iGMA.tv
