Dolphy grandson shoots, wounds 'friend' in Laguna

MANILA, Philippines-The grandson of ‘Comedy King’ Dolphy apologized after shooting a childhood friend in Laguna on Thursday afternoon. The apology - directed at the Dolphy - was aired by Rocky "Rocco" Quizon III after he was charged for attempted murder. He allegedly shot the victim, his childhood friend Jomar Paghangaan in an effort to defend his younger brother. “Sana maintindihan niya rin na yung nangyaring sitwasyon. Normal naman siguro sa kapatid na maging ganoon ang reaksiyon (I hope my grandfather understood the situation. I think it’s only normal for an older brother to have reacted that way)," Quizon told GMA News reporter Julius Segovia in an interview. According to the report, the 28-year-old Quizon shot construction worker Paghangaan Thursday noon in San Pablo Norte village in Sta. Cruz, Laguna. He was charged by Paghangaan for attempted murder after being arrested in a follow-up operation. Quizon said he was just defending his younger brother who was allegedly beaten up by Paghangaan. “Nagulpi yung kapatid ko eh. Kapatid ako, panganay ako, siyempre kahit sino namang panganay na kapatid ang lapitan ng kapatid niyang umiiyak(My brother was beaten up. I’m his older brother, the eldest, of course anyone in my place would’ve done the same thing)," Quizon explained. Earlier, Quizon denied firing a gun at Paghangaan and insisted that he just ignited a small “fivestar" firecracker at the construction site where the complainant is working. Paghangaan belied beating up anyone and said that he was merely asking Quizon’s younger brother, Rodolfo Quizon III to pay a P5,000 debt. When Quizon’s brother failed to pay his debt, Paghangaan decided to take Rodolfo’s motorcycle as mortgage. “Sinisingil ko lang yung P5,000 na hiniram sa aking pera. Hindi nagbabayad. Sabi ko, ‘Pag may pambayad ka na, tubusin mo na lang ‘tong motor na ‘to' (I’m just asking for the P5,000 he owes me. He’s not paying. So I said, ‘When you already have the money then you can take the motor from me’)," Paghangaan said. Sta Cruz Laguna police head, Chief Inspector Frederick Mead said that prior to the shooting incident, a standing warrant was already issued against Quizon for illegal drug possession. “May hawak kaming bench warrant laban sa kanya in violation of Sec 11 [Art. 2 of the Dangerous Drugs Act] for possession of illegal drugs (We already have a bench warrant against him in violation of Sec. 11 Art. 2 of the Dangerous Drugs Act for possession of illegal drugs)," Mead said. Quizon meanwhile, is apologizing to his grandfather for the incident. “Humihingi ako ng tawad sa kanya at mahal na mahal ko siya (I’m asking for my grandfather’s apology and I’d like to tell him I love him very much),"Quizon said. Dolphy refused to give a comment, according to the report. - Mark Ubalde, GMANews.TV
