Alfred Vargas' wife Yasmine files cyberlibel complaint over alleged false social media posts
Yasmine Vargas, the wife of actor and Quezon City councilor Alfred Vargas, filed 20 counts of cyberlibel on Monday over alleged false social media posts against her and her family.
On her Instagram account, Yasmine said that as a mother, she cannot remain silent while her family continues to hurt.
"Today, I filed 20 counts of cyber libel.
According to Yasmine, this can no longer go on, noting that the claims are "false" and "meant to damage our name and reputation."
Yasmine did not name the respondents of the complaint.
Ending her post, she expressed her gratitude to everyone who has offered their support and prayers.
"Bullying, in any form, has no place in our community."
On April 13, Alfred and Yasmine filed a complaint before the Office of the City Prosecutor of Manila against the parents of a minor who allegedly bullied and abused their son during swimming training.
According to the couple, the parents violated the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act and failed in their legal duty under the Family Code to supervise and discipline their child.
In a post on Alfred's social media accounts, he said that the alleged bullying incidents occurred despite "efforts, reminders, and appeals" they made to the parents to tell their child to stop.
One of the incidents allegedly happened during a swimming competition in February, when the minor pushed their son at the side area of the pool during warm-ups and nearly caused an injury.
Following Alfred and Yasmine's complaint, actor Rob Sy sent a statement to "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" denying the bullying allegations against his son.
In an Instagram post, Sy also said that he and his partner will face the complaint filed at the Manila Prosecutor's Office. —CDC, GMA News
