AlDub leads in numbers in 2015

Before we say goodbye to the old year, we looked back at the numbers behind the biggest news in the entertainment industry in 2015.

The phenomenal AlDub love team composed of Alden Richard and Maine Mendoza (aka Yaya Dub) is clearly the most significant newsmaker in the country in 2015, having set unprecedented records far and beyond the entertainment universe.

AlDub’s "Tamang Panahon" concert was aired "uninterrupted" for three hours and 30 minutes on October 24. Fans thronged the concert, filling the Philippine Arena’s 55,000 seats. Thousands more who didn’t have tickets waited outside the arena, hoping for even just a glimpse of Alden and Maine.

The show pulled a historic 50.8 percent rating for Eat Bulaga! to the chagrin of It’s Showtime, which garnered a mere 5.8 percent in the same time slot that same day.

Just as amazing, the hashtag, #ALDubEBTamangPanahon, generated 39,522,300 tweets in 24 hours, beating the 35.6 million tweets for the Brazil vs. Germany World Cup game in 2014.

Their first movie, My Bebe Love, raked in gross earnings of P60,462,169 last December 25, breaking Metro Manila Film Festival's opening day's box-office record, which was held The Amazing Paybeyt Benjamin of Vice Ganda in 2014 with a first-day earning of P53 million.

Overnight, Alden and Maine became the top stars of the country in the last quarter of 2015.

They are now the most sought-after product endorsers, with 19 combined endorsements so far: McDonald’s, Coke, O+, SKK MObile Phone, Belo Medical Group, Talk N’ Text, Tide, Hapee, 555, Yazz Viza, Technomarine, Downy, Rejoice, Bear Brand, Datu Puti, Bench, Boardwalk, Snowcaps, and Zonrox.

And their social media followers as of December 31 have leap-frogged to 2.9 million for Maine's Twitter account and 2 million for her Instagram account; 2.8 million and 1.6 million for Alden's Twitter and Instagram accounts, respectively.

There were other successes in 2015.

After 42 years, the Philippines finally bagged its third Miss Universe crown, thanks to Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.

We also made a record in Miss Earth when it won the title twice in a row, a first in the pageant’s 15-year history.

Angelia Ong, a Filipino-Chinese from Iloilo, was crowned Miss Earth 2015 in Vienna, Austria. She succeeded Jamie Herrel, a Filipino-American from Cebu City.

Ann Lorraine Colis, the Philippine representative from Pampanga, was crowned Miss Globe 2015 last October in Canada.

The 19-piece El Gamma Penumbra won the first season of Asia’s Got Talent last May. Gerphil Flores, also a Filipina, placed third.

Cyrus Villanueva won The X Factor Australia Season 6, making him the second Fil-Aussie (Marlisa Punzalan won Season 5) to win in the said reality music competition.

The all-girl siblings group, 4th Impact, which was formerly 4th Power, made it to top 5 of The X Factor UK.
