'Gangnam Style' holds Guinness record for most liked YouTube video

After setting a worldwide dance craze, the Korean pop hit "Gangnam Style" has set a Guinness World Record, too – for being the most liked video on video-sharing site YouTube. Guinness World Records (GWR) also noted the song marked the first time a South Korean artist had topped the iTunes charts. "'Gangnam Style', which has only been available to view since the 15th of July, has been 'liked' in excess of 2,141,758 times, making it the most liked video in YouTube history," it said in a Sept. 20 release posted on its website. The video, which has generated several spoofs, is perceived by many to poke fun at the lavish lifestyle in South Korea's Gangnam district. The song is the most successful single to date for PSY, whose real name is Park Jae-Sang. As of 5 a.m. Sunday (in Manila), the official video posted last July 15 by pop superstar PSY had gained 2,414,854 likes and 105,470 dislikes. GWR said the closest competitors for most liked video on YouTube include LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" (1,574,963 likes), Justin's Bieber's "Baby" (1,327,147 likes) and Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" (1,245,641 likes). "Korean Pop Superstar 'PSY' has already achieved quite a lot with his video for 'Gangnam style', and now he can add a Guinness World Record to that list," GWR said. GWR also noted the single had been viewed more than 200 million times. As of Sunday morning, it was viewed 244,104,460 times. "Having been the 'Have you seen this?!' video of the last two months across the web, it's great to be able to award a record for this tremendously popular video. In years past it was unthinkable that something  would be viewed a hundred million times, and now 'Gangnam Style' has achieved more than twice this figure in just three months on YouTube," said GWR community manager for comments Dan Barrett. — LBG, GMA News
