No reunion show for 'Friends,' creators say

Ten years after it aired its last episode, fans of global-hit television show "Friends" continue to clamor for a reunion show.
However, creators of the sitcom, which ran for 10 years, reiterated that a reunion was never going to happen despite multiple requests over the years to bring back the show.
"We never, ever from the beginning ever wanted to do a spin-off or Grown-Up Friends or Friends Kids or Baby Friends. We always knew and felt very strongly that not only would it never happen, we never wanted to be part of that, because it so rarely works," said Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
"We just felt like this show is about a certain time in your life, and once you’re past that time in your life, the show is over," she added.
For his part, co-creator David Crane said he felt that a show reunion could lead to backlash.
"Marta and I’ve talked about this a lot: People say they want it, and the more that we say it’s a bad idea, people [disagree]. But I think if we actually gave it to people, there would be such backlash," he said in the same interview.
He, however, said the comedy show can still anyway be watched on TV.
"If anyone wants Friends, turn on your TV! Amazingly, thank God, it’s there. And these are all great actors that you’re seeing all the time in other things," he said.
Friends, starring Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer began in 1994 and quickly became a world-wide hit. Some 51.1 million Americans alone tuned in for the May 2004 series finale to see Ross end up with Rachel following the earlier marriages of Monica and Chandler, and Phoebe and Mike.
Re-runs of the 10 "Friends" seasons are still in syndication around the world, and rumors of a possible reunion episode set for November 2014 spread like wildfire across the Internet earlier this week, prompting the creators to debunk the internet buzz.
