Rocker Caleb Johnson wins ‘American Idol’ Season 13
"Old-school" rocker Caleb Johnson emerged as this year's winner of "American Idol" on Wednesday night (US time).
According to People.com, 23-year-old Johnson of North Carolina bested Jena Irene Asciutto of Michigan in a two-part finale held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.
On Tuesday's performance night, the two engaged in a three-round singing showdown that "featured major contrasts" between Johnson's rocker roots and 17-year-old Asciutto's soulful renditions, the report said.
Johnson, an "early standout" whose vocal cord was injured during the show's run, sang "Dream On" by Aerosmith, Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed," and an original single titled "As Long as You Love Me".
The Top 13 of the show's 13th installment included 16-year-old Filipino-American Malaya Watson. — Rose-An Jessica Dioquino/BM, GMA News
