'Goodbye, Genie': Lea Salonga bids farewell to 'Aladdin' co-star Robin Williams
Lea Salonga was among the Filipino celebrities who bid their farewell online on Tuesday to American actor Robin Williams, who died of apparent suicide.
On her Facebook account, she posted a screencap of a scene from the 1992 animated film "Aladdin" featuring Princess Jasmine giving Genie a kiss, with the caption: "Sigh... good-bye, Genie... now you truly are free."
Post by Lea Salonga.
Salonga provided the singing voice for the Princess Jasmine character, most memorably for the hit song "A Whole New World."
Williams, meanwhile, garnered rave reviews for his performance as the Genie, using his unique comedic talents to make it one of the most memorable characters in Disney's series of animated films.
The death of Williams shook Hollywood, and colleagues mourned the loss of what many called a big-hearted man and one of the most inventive comedians of his time.
Williams had been recently suffering from severe depression, his publicist Mara Buxbaum said in a statement, and the actor had repeatedly talked about his past struggles with alcohol. — JST, GMA News with a report from Reuters
