Star Wars VII subtitle out: The Force Awakens

The upcoming "Star Wars" movie, the seventh installment in the fabled film franchise, will have the subtitle "The Force Awakens."

This was disclosed by Disney on its Twitter account, and on the "Star Wars" official account, early Friday PHL time.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens has completed principal photography," read the tweet at the "Star Wars" official account at 1 a.m.

It had the hashtags #StarWarsVII and #TheForceAwakens.

Disney's Twitter account followed suit three minutes later: ".@starwars: The Force Awakens has completed principal photography. #TheForceAwakens #StarWarsVII"

Tech site The Verge described the title as feeling "like a very classic Star Wars name, and it manages to create that feeling even without directly mimicking a prior title."

Much of the cast from the original film - from nearly 40 years ago - has been brought back for this movie.

It also noted director J.J. Abrams already pointed out Episode VII "is meant to feel like an extension of the original trilogy."

"Regardless of what happens, there's one thing clear about the title: it sounds like the beginning of something big — and that's pretty fitting for the beginning of a new epic," it said.

The film is scheduled for release December 2015.  — Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
