After leaving One Direction, Zayn Malik releases new solo song

Less than a week after singer Zayn Malik left best-selling pop band One Direction, his first song as a solo artist was released on Tuesday via audio platform SoundCloud by famed U.K. producer Naughty Boy.

"Let the music do the talking, guys. Thank us later," the producer said in social media post linking to Malik's first post-One Direction demo track.

The song, which lasts for almost three minutes, is entitled 'I Won't Mind' and features a soft acoustic guitar and gentle percussion with the soothing vocals that Malik is known for. The demo then stops abruptly for an unknown reason.

Last Wednesday, Zayn Malik said he was quitting the best-selling pop band One Direction because he wanted to live a normal life and apologised to fans of the hugely popular British-Irish group for doing so.

"I'd like to apologise to the fans if I've let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart. I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight," Malik said in a statement on One Direction's Facebook page.

The decision by Malik to quit came after he dropped out of an Asian tour due to what he said was stress when pictures of the singer, who is engaged to Perrie Edwards of Little Mix, were published showing him partying with another woman in Thailand.

After the unexpected turn of events, the band One Direction will continue to perform as a four-piece, consisting of members Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Liam Payne. —Bianca Rose Dabu/JST, GMA News
