Jessica Chastain, Jimmy Kimmel try Asian fruit ‘durian’
In a recent episode of American late-night talk show “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” award-winning Hollywood actress Jessica Chastain brought the Asian fruit called durian for host Jimmy Kimmel to try.
For anyone not familiar, the exotic fruit common in Southeast Asia—particularly in Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia—holds a reputation for being foul-smelling, but generally good-tasting for most people.
In the Philippines, the durian fruit grows most abundantly in Mindanao.
While it is usually called the “King of Fruits,” the actress called it the “Blue Cheese of Fruit.”
According to Jessica, she was able to acquire the fruit in Singapore while promoting the film “The Huntsman: Winter's War”, in which she stars alongside Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart, and Nick Frost, among others.
The actress said she loved the fruit, even though “it kind of smells like a garbage can.”
She said it tastes like an odd mixture of onions, garlic, pineapple, and avocado, with a hint of custard.
On the other hand, Jimmy was not as enamored with durian as his guest.
“It's on the line between horrible and delicious,” he said after tasting a rather large portion of the fruit. — Bianca Rose Dabu/DVM, GMA News
