Alicia Vikander named as new Lara Croft — reports
Academy award-winning actress Alicia Vikander has been announced as the new Lara Croft, according to film industry reports.
Both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety publications have reported that the Swedish actress, who won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in 'The Danish Girl', is to take the part in the reboot of 'Tomb Raider'.
The character of adventuring archaeologist Lara Croft first appeared as a Playstation character and was known for her pigtails, double pistols and curvy figure.
Angelina Jolie was the first actress to take on the role in both 'Tomb Raider' and its sequel 'Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life' which were distributed by Paramount.
The reboot is reported to be a Warner Bros, MGM and GK Films production directed by Norwegian director Roar Uthaug who most recently helmed the disaster film 'The Wave'. — Reuters
