Arnold won’t do ‘Expendables 4’ without Sly

Looks like two of the greatest action hero icons in the history of Hollywood won’t be saying “I’ll be back” for another "Expendables" sequel. Entertainment Weekly reports that ex-Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger has stated that he won’t be returning for “The Expendables 4” without fellow action star Sylvester Stallone, who has reportedly withdrawn from the fourth installment due to creative differences with Nu Image/Millennium studio chief Avi Lerner.

Schwarzenegger is steadfast in his belief that there can be no new sequel of the movie series some of the world's biggest action stars without the man who created the franchise in the first place. “There is no 'Expendables' without Sly,” says Arnold. “I would never do the movie without him, no.”

Reported by EW as well, Stallone’s departure marks the first time the actor/director is going to be absent from the series starring his peers and actor friends from their 80’s and 90’s action movie days. Stallone directed and co-wrote the first "Expendables" film, in which he played Barney Ross, the leader of a mercenary group of the same name that took on heavy-hitting jobs but also held on to a moral code. Schwarzenegger appeared in all three of the films so far as Barney’s rival Trench.

Despite news of a fourth film being developed, Arnold has heard very little about what the next sequel will be about. “I have not seen a script; I don’t even know if there is a script, even though they want to shoot in August again, like they usually do.”

The legendary bodybuilder turned actor and politician also said that he felt his character in the third movie was not properly developed, but added that the series is a "spectacular" franchise. "I think that Sly has good ideas, what he wants to do with it, and I think if they write a really good script [in] which my part is very well-developed, I would do it. If not, then I won’t do it," he told EW. — BM, GMA News
