Anthony Hopkins thinks Michael Bay is a genius

Throughout his legendary career in film, Sir Anthony Hopkins has worked with some of the best directors Hollywood has to offer, including Steven Spielberg and Ridley Scott.

For his latest movie, "Transformers: The Last Knight," Hopkins worked with director Michael Bay—and in an interview with Yahoo! Movies, the Academy Award-winning actor not only had favorable words to say about the “Bad Boys” and “Armageddon” director's work ethic, he even called him a “genius” and compared him to Spielberg and Martin Scorsese.

“He was telling me about the work he did on [the Transformers bots]—how he would refine them and go into the special effects guys and design them and get all the details of light on metal and all that. He told me all that at breakfast before I started on the film. I thought, 'This guy’s a genius. He really is.' He’s the same ilk as Oliver Stone, and Spielberg and Scorsese. Brilliance. Savants, really, they are. He’s a savant.”

While there’s no questioning that Bay’s movies have made tons of money at the box office, his films have been met with divided opinions from both critics and fans alike. "The Last Knight" is meant to be the fifth and final time Bay will be in the director’s chair, but only time will tell if the director will continue to helm the franchise, given that at least 14 more Transformers stories have apparently been written, and a Bumblebee spin-off in the works.
