David Hasselhoff teases his role in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’
Fans who enjoyed the first “Guardians of the Galaxy” know that director James Gunn has an ear for awesome tracks from the 70’s and 80’s—many of which found their way to Star-Lord’s mixtape.
The upcoming sequel also features a great selection of classics. According to Rolling Stone, the “Vol. 2” soundtrack will include songs by Fleetwood Mac, Jay and the Americans, Parliament, and an original track called “Guardian Inferno” by The Sneepers with legendary actor David Hasselhoff as vocalist—fitting, as he’s Peter Quill’s childhood hero.
In an interview at the film's red carpet premiere in Los Angeles, Hasselhoff said that he has a part in the sequel, but did not spill any details. “I can’t tell you much about my association with the movie, but check it out. You’re gonna like it,” he said.
Hasselhoff also revealed that Gunn has been a fan of his since childhood. "James Gunn, when he was eight years old, watched a show called Knight Rider," he said.
"And because of that show, he kinda wooed [me] into singing the main title song, which I've already cut, and it's really fun, and he wrote that. And I got to know him and his parents and the whole Marvel gang. And what I'm allowed to tell you is that it was a really great experience."
Known for his roles as Michael Knight in the 80’s action adventure show “Knight Rider” and Mitch Buchannon in the 90’s television series "Baywatch," Hasselhoff has had a very extensive career as an actor and musician, even becoming a judge on "America’s Got Talent." His musical career boomed in the 80’s when his “Looking for Freedom” album went triple platinum in Europe, with him performing the title song on New Year’s Eve in 1989 days after the Berlin Wall collapsed.
A few years ago, Hasselhoff sang the song “True Survivor” for the 2015 YouTube movie “Kung Fury,” an original action film that pays tribute to the 80’s and has become a minor cult favorite. His secret role in "Vol. 2" could be in the same vein; we’ll just have to watch the film to find out. — BM, GMA News
