The cast of the live-action movie adaptation of ‘Aladdin’ takes first selfie from set

It's official: the cast of the live-action adaptation of Disney's "Aladdin" are here and they're just as excited as fans.

Stepping in the shoes of Genie is Will Smith, who shared a photo with the rest of the main cast — Mena Massoud (Aladdin), Naomi Scott (Princess Jasmine), and Marwan Kenzari (Jafar).

"We just started shooting Aladdin and I wanted to intro you guys to our new family… Mena Massoud/Aladdin, Naomi Scott/Princess Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari/Jafar, and I’m over here gettin my Genie on. Here we go!" Smith wrote.

At the helm of the live-action "Aladdin" film adaptation is Guy Ritchie, directing the screenplay written by John August.

The animated Disney feature premiered in 1992 to great critical acclaim. The film's Best Original Song nomination (and eventual win) saw the magical transformation of national treasure Lea Salonga into a Disney Princess at the 65th Academy Awards.

"Aladdin" orginally featured the voices of Scott Weinger, Jonathan Freeman, Linda Larkin, and the late great Robin Williams.

Disney has recently adapted a number of their animated classics into live-action feature, including "Cinderella" and "Beauty and the Beast." — AT/LA, GMA News
