Katharine McPhee and David Foster are engaged

Former "American Idol" contestant Katharine McPhee, 34, and veteran Canadian musician David Foster, 68, are engaged.

McPhee confirmed the news on Instagram Wednesday by posting her SMS exchange with Jared Eng, wherein she revealed where Foster popped the question.

“He did it at the top of this mountain in Anacapri. Totally dark, only stars. Thankfully he didn’t push me off the cliff. He said it was one or the other. And in the end he spared me,” Mcphee wrote.

The pair are currently on vacation in Italy.

Hours after McPhee's announcement, Foster confirmed the news on his Instagram account with a photo of the two of them on a boat. He used the musical staff as caption before writing "Yup!!"

This will be McPhee's second marriage after getting a divorce from ex-husband Nick Cockas in 2016. Foster meanwhile has been married four times and has five children. He divorced his last wife, Dutch-American TV personality Yolanda Hadid, in 2017.

Foster and McPhee met each other on "American Idol" when Foster mentored McPhee on "American Idol" Season 5.

Amid the news, E News! couldn't help but point out something utterly awkward: Foster actually played the piano at McPhee's first wedding ten years ago.
