Angelina Jolie transforms into Disney queen Maleficent

The 2014 Disney movie "Maleficent" may have opened mixed reviews, but the casting of Angelina Jolie as the iconic title character received near-universal acclaim.

Now with the sequel "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil" getting ready to open next month, the studio has released a behind-the-scenes video of the star in the makeup chair, getting her horns and cheekbones on as she turns into the famous screen queen.

The "Maleficent" movies take a live-action look at the villain of the 1959 animated film Sleeping Beauty.

While the first film ended on a happy note, "Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil" seems to mark a turn to the dark side for the titular horned fairy (Angelina Jolie), who objects to her charge Aurora's impending wedding to Prince Philip (Harris Dickinson). The prince's mother, Queen Ingrith (Michelle Pfeiffer) is also there to stir the pot and brew some trouble.

"Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil" is directed by Joachim Rønning and also stars Elle Fanning, Harris Dickinson, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. It opens in theaters in October 2019. — BM, GMA News
