Chris Hemsworth is one bad-ass mercenary in new movie ‘Extraction’

First thing you need to know about Chris Hemsworth’s new movie “Extraction” is that it's not "The Avengers."

Yes, it stars the actor who played Thor, was directed by the stunt coordinator of “Endgame,” and was produced by the Russo Brothers, but “Extraction” treats the audience to a different kind of jaw-dropping action.

The movie follows a more complicated hero in the form of Tyler Rake (Hemsworth), a black market mercenary who goes on a deadly mission to rescue a crime lord’s kidnapped son, Ovi (Rudhraksh Jaiswal).

And by follow, we mean you're going to feel like you're in the thick of things, with Chris as he pulls some dangerous car maneuvers through maze-like streets, jumps off tall buildings and cliffs, and fights off one guy after another until he gets the job done.

What can you expect when your director is also a stunt legend behind "Avengers: Endgame" and "Civil War?"

Just to give you an idea, Sam Hargrave literally strapped himself to a car for a gripping 12-minute take in the movie. It was a “oner,” as they call it, so he and Chris couldn’t really use any stunt doubles.

As Chris would described it in a tweet: “(This was) By far the most complicated action sequence I’ve ever been part of, and if it wasn’t already complex enough, our director decided to shoot it as a “oner” — almost 12 minutes long and it’s about as exhausting to watch as it was to film. Strap in folks!”

During a round table interview on Zoom, Chris told us that his character's emotional journey was one of the things he was most excited for the audience to see.

“I think not often do you have — and this is what I loved about the script — such complex, incredible action, coupled with an emotional story, and a heartbeat at the center of it,” he told GMA News Online.

So if you want to go on an extreme, action-packed and surprisingly emotional adventure while your area is under enhanced community quarantine, we think “Extraction” is going to keep audiences at home at the edge of their seats.

It comes out April 24 on Netflix. — LA, GMA News
