Francisco Martin has taken one big step closer to his goal of being the next American Idol.
The Filipino-American singer just breached the show's Top 10 after his performance of "Falling Like The Stars" by James Arthur.
In an Instagram post, Francisco looked back at his audition, which made waves online after he blew away judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan.
"Looking back on my first ever audition in Oregon, it’s crazy to see just how much we’ve achieved on this journey together. You’ve all made an impact on my life that I will never forget. The journey isn’t over yet," he wrote.
During his latest performance, the 18-year-old singer shared that his anxiety has been worsening amid the coronavirus pandemic.
He shared that his mother is a medical frontliner.
"She's working frontliners, it's kind of been messing with my anxiety as well too. I'm just worrying about her constantly every day, praying for her every night," he said.
Katy couldn't help her tears hearing about his mother, and Lionel also gave a shout out to her for being a first responder during the crisis.
Luke meanwhile praised Francisco for his performance.
"You know Francisco, I just think you're a diamond in the rough. You really know how to get all the emotion out of a song. If I was a little more hormonal, I'll be crying right now," he said.
Francisco, a pre-law student from San Francisco, California made an impression on the judges as early as his auditions.
He blew them away with his rendition of "Alaska" by Maggie Rogers, prompting them to let him perform his original songs.
