Jimmy Kimmel to host Primetime Emmy awards show in September

LOS ANGELES - Jimmy Kimmel will host the Primetime Emmy Awards show on Sept. 20, broadcaster ABC said on Tuesday.

Kimmel made the announcement through his Twitter account.

I don't know where or how or even why we are doing this, but we are and I am hosting it! The 72nd #Emmy Awards - Sunday, September 20th on @ABCNetwork @TelevisionAcad

No details were given for how the awards show, the highest honors in television, would be produced given the coronavirus pandemic that has forced the cancellation of multiple live events.

This occasion is Kimmel's third time to host the Emmys. He previously hosted the 64th and 68th Emmy Awards in 2012 and 2016.
