What’s next for BTS? Meet fans, win a Grammy

With the success of their latest hit “Dynamite,” BTS doesn’t feel the need to stop and is in fact on their way to their next goal.

In a recent interview with the group that was aired on “24 Oras” Friday, leader RM said they wished they could celebrate their victory with their fans collectively known as Army.

“We can’t go to some kind of award or performance, we can’t go to the airport … we’re just always at the studio and looking at the internet, heard some news that we got another No. 1. We’re so grateful but still you know, we’re so sad,” RM told Reuters.

The group—composed of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook—had to postpone their massive stadium world tour due to the coronavirus pandemic.

With “Dynamite,” BTS became the first South Korean musical act to hit No. 1 on the US-dominated Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. The song spent two consecutive weeks at the top and maintains its high ranking even as it slips down a notch this week.

The group is making waves in US and all over the world as they continue promotions for “Dynamite” through performances on popular TV programs and award ceremonies, including MTV’s Video Music Awards and “America’s Got Talent,” among other shows.

Apart from the Hot 100, BTS has also consistently ranked high on Billboard’s album and social lists, as well as iTunes and other global music charts. The septet has also won trophies at the VMAs and two of America’s leading music organizations—the American Music Awards and the Billboard Music Awards.

The one major recognition, however, that has remained elusive for the group is the one from the biggest music award body in the US—the Grammys.

“Since we’re like aliens to the music industry for America, we don’t know if there’s a place for us or not. And the Grammys are not like Billboard Hot 100, it’s not like numbers. We don’t know what’s going on. But we’re still dreaming. Grammy solo performance or nomination is like one of our last dreams,” said RM.

“So, we will keep doing our best and we hope we could touch the people’s hearts in the Recording Academy someday,” he added.

Earlier this year, American artist Lil Nas X shared the Grammys stage with BTS to perform his “Old Town Road” remix “Seoul Town Road,” which featured RM.

Last year, the group made their first appearance and became the first K-Pop group to present an award at the Grammys with their nomination for best recording package for their 2018 album “Love Yourself: Tear.”

Also in 2019, BTS was invited to become voting members of the Recording Academy, the body that presents the Grammy Awards, together with Bang Si-hyuk, the CEO of their company Big Hit Entertainment. – RC, GMA News
