Blackpink to release new version of ‘Lovesick Girls’ music video after backlash

Blackpink will release a new version of their “Lovesick Girls” music video following the criticism it received from a group of healthcare workers in South Korea.

According to a report by Soompi on Wednesday, Blackpink’s agency YG Entertainment said it will “edit out all of the scenes with the nurse uniform” in the music video and “replace the [original] video as soon as possible.”

“While working on the music video for a long time, we did not expect this issue to be raised because [the scenes] had no specific intention to them,” the company was quoted as saying.

“We feel greatly responsible for this and will consider it an opportunity to deeply learn,” it added.

The report also said YG Entertainment sent its apologies to the health workers’ group.

“We relay our apologies to the nurses who felt discomfort, and we once again express our respect to all healthcare workers who are working hard for the sake of the health of the citizens,” said the agency’s statement.

Following the release of Blackpink’s “Lovesick Girls,” the Korean Health and Medical Workers Union reportedly expressed discomfort over the portrayal of a nurse in the song’s music video.

According to the Soompi article, the group said the scenes contributed to the “distorted stereotypes about nurses.”

Released Oct. 2, the “Lovesick Girls” music video has over 123 million views as of writing. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
