MF Doom, masked rapper, dies at 49


British rapper MF Doom has passed away. He was 49.

According to a tribute shared by his wife Jasmine on his Instagram, the rapper “transitioned” on Oct. 31. The cause of death was not given.

“The greatest husband, father, teacher, student, business partner, lover and friend I could ever ask for. Thank you for all the things you have shown, taught and given to me, our children and our family. Thank you for teaching me how to forgive beings and give another chance, not to be so quick to judge and write off. Thank you for showing how not to be afraid to love and be the best person I could ever be,” she wrote.

“My world will never be the same without you. Words will never express what you and Malachi mean to me, I love both and adore you always. May THE ALL continue to bless you, our family and the planet.”

Born Daniel Dumile, MF Doom debuted in the late ’80s. He wore a metal mask inspired by Marvel Comics’ Doctor Doom. Variety called him “[o]ne of the most celebrated, unpredictable and enigmatic figures in independent hip-hop.” 

He is known for his work on the 2004 album “Madvillainy” with American DJ Madlib. His other collaborators include Danger Doom, Danger Mouse, Doomstarks, and Ghostface Killah, among other notable artists and producers. – RC, GMA News
