Joshua Bassett opens up about sexuality: 'Love who you love shamelessly'

"The High School Musical: The Musical: The Series" star Joshua Bassett opened up about his sexuality in a social media post and urged everyone to love who they love "shamelessly."

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the actor posted a video of himself playing the keyboard and singing the lyrics "I'm breaking the spell. I'm mending the cycle. Been going through hell. Need more than survival."

In the caption, he wrote, "My entire life people have told me my sexuality. People have shamed me for things they know nothing about. I want to say thank you to those of you who stand for love and acceptance."

Joshua said that it was 2021 already and that they are "the generation of love and growth" and it was time they started acting like it.

"Love who you love shamelessly," he said. "It’s ok to still be figuring out who you are. Life’s too short to let ignorance and hatred win."

"I choose love," he added.

Joshua stars opposite of hit sensation Olivia Rodrigo in the Disney+ series. The on-screen couple were speculated to be romantically involved offstage before a rumoured split up. — Kaela Malig/LA, GMA News
