Elizabeth Banks to star, direct Victoria Aveyard's 'Red Queen' adaptation
Elizabeth Banks is set to star and direct the series adaptation of the hit young adult fantasy novel "Red Queen" written by Victoria Aveyard.
According to a Deadline report on Tuesday, Banks will be playing a major supportive role for the series adaptation and she, along with Max Handelman, will also be its executive producers through Brownstone Productions.
Co-produced by Universal Television and Warner Bros. TV, the series will be written by "Arrow" showrunner Beth Schwartz and Aveyard herself.
The series will be showcased on Peacock, NBC Universal's own streaming service.
"Red Queen," published back in 2015, is set in an alternate world where America is led by a monarchy composed of humans with superpowers who rule those without power with an iron fist.
Mare, a young woman born to poverty, discovers she has super powers as well and finds herself thrust into the monarchy and a part of a revolution.
The novel is followed up with three more sequels: "Glass Sword," "King's Cage," and "War Storm." — Kaela Malig/LA, GMA News
