Lil Nas X hits back at criticism vs. his same-sex kiss, red carpet outfit at 2021 BET Awards
Lil Nas X is not backing down from hate comments after causing a stir with his performance at the 2021 BET Awards.
During the show, the American rapper performed a rendition of his song "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)," during which he kissed a male back-up dancer for the finale.
It drew some flak from unhappy viewers, but Lil Nas X was quick to shoot them down on Twitter.
y’all hate yourselves so much. y’all live your lives trying your best to appease straight ppl. y’all are uncomfortable with what i do because y’all are afraid they will be uncomfortable with you. work on yourselves, i love who i am and whatever i decide to do. get there. https://t.co/oHoYkux98F

"Work on yourselves, I love who I am and whatever I decide to do," he added.
In a separate tweet, he said, "We are 4 months in and people are still acting surprised that I am being gay and sexual in performances of a song about gay and sexual sh-t."

However, there were those who were unhappy with his choice of clothes.
After a Twitter user told him that he would inspire younger boys to dress like him, the rapper said, "We causing the emasculation of men all 2021."

Another user told him that he didn't need to "look or act the part of a fem," and that he could just show up wearing a suit and tie.
"Wearing traditional male clothing and using Lebron memes will not help you make straight friends bro give it up," Lil Nas X responded.
Amid the criticism, Lil Nas X expressed his gratitude to those who supported him, and admitted that it wasn't easy for him to do that performance of "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)."
"It took me a lot of time to mentally prepare for this performance. While on stage I was trembling knowing that I was performing something like that in front of my straight peers. Even during the performance i was having a hard time calming my nerves," he said. "Thank you guys for the love." —JCB, GMA News
