'Encanto' wins Oscar's Best Animated Feature
Disney film "Encanto" won the Oscar for best animated feature at the Academy Awards on Monday morning (Manila time).
"I am so proud to be part of a film that puts beautiful diverse characters front and center and people around the world are seeing themselves," said Encanto producer Yvett Merino during the awards night.
"Encanto" is an animated film about a magical family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a vibrant town called Encanto.
The movie has since entered the local zeitgeist with its song "We Don't Talk About Bruno" becoming Disney's largest hit since 1995 and celebrities like Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz cosplaying the character Luisa for her birthday.
In the Best Animated Feature category, Encanto beat out fellow nominees "Flee," "Luca," "The Mitchells vs. the Machines," and "Raya and the Last Dragon."
Disney previously won the award for "Frozen" in 2013, "Big Hero 6" in 2014, and "Zootopia" in 2016. — LA, GMA News
