Seulgi of Red Velvet reveals why she chose '28 Reasons' as her debut title track

Seulgi of Red Velvet finally made her solo debut with “28 Reasons” and as expected, it was pretty much already a hit after just a day. But what made her decide to highlight this track?

In an INKIPOP interview with  fellow Red Velvet member Wendy, Seulgi said it was what she imagined as a performance the most when she was going through her options.

“When people learn (that) Seulgi is going solo, they could really expect a performance,” she said. “At the same time, I didn’t want to compromise the vocals.”

“This song was most suitable for my first opportunity to express myself. You can expect to see a deep side of me because this is such an expressive song,” she added.

The song “28 Reasons” is a “pop dance song with a groovy and heavy bass and whistle sound.” Seulgi said one of her inspirations for the choreography was Wanda or Marvel’s Scarlet Witch.

“It throws questions about our relationships through the mouth of a good and evil character who both have pure interests but also mischievousness towards their crush," she said.

“There’s a fancy hand choreography to appear like a witch while the choreo with the dancers may seem a bit grotesque because I control them as if I cast a spell like a witch," she added.

Seulgi’s first mini album of the same name has six songs including the title track, “Bad Boy, Sad Girl,” “Dead Man Runnin,’” “Anywhere But Home,” “Los Angeles,” and “Crown.”

As of writing, the “28 Reasons” music video has captured over three million views after just less than a day of release.

Also composed of Irene, Wendy, Joy, and Yeri, Red Velvet last visited the Philippines in July for the “Be You: The World Will Adjust” concert. Their hits include “Psycho,” “Feel My Rhythm,” and “Bad Boy.” —Franchesca Viernes/JCB, GMA News
