iKON leaves YG Entertainment

iKON is leaving YG Entertainment, the agency announced on Friday.

According to a statement published by Soompi, the decision comes “after a long discussion.”

“We are informing you that after a long discussion with the iKON members (Kim Jinhwan, Bobby, Song Yunhyeong, Goo Junhoe, Kim Donghyuk, and Jung Chanwoo) about their future activities, out of respect for each other’s opinions, we agreed to end our exclusive contract following the expiration of their contract period,” YG Entertainment said.

“The six members of iKON will of course be continuing their activities as the group ‘iKON’ in the future,” they added.

YG assured fans, iKONIC, that the group will continue to communicate with them through social media and Weverse.

They also thanked iKON for being one of their artists and said that they are looking forward to the group’s future activities.

“Additionally, we also thank the iKONIC who were together with us for iKON’s journey. We ask that you continue to give the members your unchanging interest and encouragement as they prepare for a new start,” the agency said.

Composed of Jay, Song, Bobby, DK, Ju-ne, and Chan, iKON debuted in 2015 following the reality survival shows “WIN: Who is Next” and “Mix & Match.” Leader B.I. left the group in 2019. The group’s top hits include “LOVE SCENARIO” and “KILLING ME.”

Early this week, BIGBANG members Daesung and Taeyang also left YG after their contracts expired. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News
