Ke Huy Quan gets emotional in Golden Globes speech: ‘For so many years, I was afraid I had nothing more to offer’

Ke Huy Quan, who won Best Supporting Actor for his performance in "Everything Everywhere All at Once," teared up during his speech at the Golden Globes.

In the smash hit film directed by Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, Quan portrayed Waymond Wang, the meek husband of Evelyn, played by Michelle Yeoh.

After getting up onstage and kissing his trophy, the actor started by saying, “I was raised to never forget where I came from and to always remember who gave me my first opportunity."

Quan talked more about his career beginnings, as a child actor in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom."

"I felt so very lucky to have been chosen. As I grew older, I started to wonder if that was it. If that was just luck. For so many years, I was afraid I had nothing more to offer. That no matter what I did, I would never surpass what I achieved as a kid,” he said.

“Thankfully, more than 30 years later, two guys thought of me. They remembered that kid and they gave me an opportunity to try again. Everything—everything that has happened since it has been unbelievable. Dan Kwan, Daniel Scheinert, thank you so, so much for helping me find my answer. You have given me more than I could have ever hoped,” he added.

Quan also thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for “this incredible honor,” the film’s producers, crew, and his co-stars.

Tearing up, Quan also thanked his wife, whom he called “the most important person in my life, the one person that never stopped believing in me.”

“I love you with all my heart,” he added.

This is Quan’s first nomination and win at the Golden Globes. He is the second Asian to win the best supporting actor recognition, follwing Haing S. Ngor for “The Killing Fields.”

According to Variety, Quan’s role as Waymond has also won him awards from the Gotham Awards, National Society of Film Critics, Los Angeles Film Critics Association (where he tied with Filipina actress Dolly de Leon), and the New York Film Critics Circle. — LA, GMA Integrated News
