Dolly Parton's husband of almost 60 years dies

Dolly Parton’s husband, Carl Dean, has passed away.

In a statement on Instagram, Dolly announced that Carl died on March 3 in Nashville, Tennessee.

He was 82 years old, and is survived by Dolly and his siblings Sandra and Donnie. No cause of death was named.

“Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can't do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy," Dolly said.

Carl will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with immediate family, who has requested for privacy during this difficult time.

According to Associated Press, the couple first met outside a laundromat when the singer was 18 and first moved to Nashville. They got married two years later, in 1966.

Dolly and Carl — a businessman who owned an asphalt-paving business in Nashville — had no children and kept their relationship private.

For their 50th wedding anniversary in 2016, the couple renewed their vows.

Carl inspired Dolly’s hit song “Jolene.” She wrote it when a bank teller showed interest in her husband.

He was also the inspiration for Dolly’s 2023 rock ‘n roll album, “Rockstar.”
