South Korean singer Wheesung passes away
South Korean singer Wheesung has passed away. He was 43 years old.
Citing police reports, Korean media reported on Monday that Wheesung was discovered collapsed at around 6:29 p.m. in his apartment in Seoul.
Emergency responders were dispatched following a report from his family, but he was ultimately pronounced dead. The police are currently investigating the exact cause of death.
"So far, no signs of external intrusion or criminal intent have been confirmed," the police report said. "Whether there is a will and the specific circumstances of death are under investigation."
According to a statement by Wheesung's agency Tajoy Entertainment, the singer "was found in a state of cardiac arrest and was subsequently pronounced deceased."
"The sudden loss has left his family, fellow artists at Tajoy Entertainment, and our entire staff in profound grief. It pains us deeply to deliver this devastating news to the fans who have always supported and loved Wheesung. We ask that you keep him in your thoughts and prayers so that he may rest peacefully," it said, adding that details regarding his funeral arrangements will be announced separately.
They also asked people to exercise restraint from spreading unverified rumors or speculative reports out of respect for his bereaved family.
"Once again, we extend our deepest condolences as we bid a final farewell to Wheesung," the agency said.
Wheesung debuted in 2002 with his first album "Like a Movie." He was famously known for his hit songs "Is It Not Possible?," With Me," "The Day We Meet Again," "Terminal Illness," and "In a Year."
He also worked as a lyricist, composing lyrics for his song "Love Is Delicious" as well as for Younha's "Password 486," Lee Hyori's "HEY MR.BIG (boys in girl)," T-ara's "Going Crazy Because of You," Orange Caramel's "Magical Girl," TWICE's "Dance The Night Away," Ivy's "Seductive Sonata," and Ailee's "Heaven."
