Suga becomes final BTS member to complete military service
All BTS members have now completed their mandatory military service!
Suga, the last member who had still been in service, got discharged on Saturday. While he did not greet the press outside his military base, he made the announcement on Weverse.
"It's a day I've been waiting for and it's been a long time, so I had a lot of thoughts on how to say hello," he told fans.
Thanking the BTS ARMY for waiting, Suga said that in his two-year service, he had time to reflect on himself.
“In particular, I wanted to take a step away from what I had been doing for a long time,” he said.
Suga also looked back on his drunk driving incident in 2024.
“And I'm sorry for making you disappointed and worried about what happened last year,” Suga said. “Above all, it was so upsetting that it hurt the fans' hearts.”
“I felt sorry for the members who must have felt heavy in their seats because of me,” he added.
In the aforementioned incident, Suga was driving a scooter after a night of drinking, fell while parking in front of his home. Nearby police officers approached him, conducted a beathalyzer test, fined him, and suspended his license.
While there were no people affected or establishments damaged, Suga took responsibility for what happened, "to bow my head and apologize with no excuses,” he said at the time.
Suga, who also goes by the name Agust D for his solo work, enlisted in the military in September 2023.
He is the final member of BTS to be discharged. RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook were discharged early this month.
The seven members were all spotted during J-Hope’s Hope on the Stage Final concert on June 13, which was also BTS’ 12th anniversary. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News
