Legendary fashion designer Valentino Garavani passes away

Valentino Garavani, the legendary Italian fashion designer behind Maison Valentino, has passed away. He was 93.

The Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti Foundation announced the news on Instagram, along with the funeral details.

“[He] passed away today at his Roman residence, surrounded by his loved ones,” the statement read.

The foundation also announced that Valentino will lie in state at Piazza Mignanelli in Rome on Wednesday and Thursday. The funeral is set for Friday at the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels and Martyrs.

Meanwhile, Maison Valentino also paid tribute to its founder.

“We share with heartfelt sympathy the grief of his loved ones, and we remain committed to preserving and elevating the valued creative, cultural, and human heritage he entrusted to us, upon which Maison Valentino is founded,” the statement read.

“His life was a beacon in the ceaseless pursuit of beauty, and guided by that same beauty, we will continue to honor his memory with our deepest devotion,” it added. “Thank you, Mr. Valentino.”

Valentino was ranked along the likes of Giorgio Armani and Karl Lagerfeld as among fashion’s “greatest of all time.”

Lagerfeld passed away in 2019, while Armani died in 2025.
