'House of the Dragon' Season 3: Tom Glynn-Carney says prosthetics help him play Aegon Targaryen's desperation

Tom Glynn-Carney is stepping into a different version of King Aegon Targaryen in "House of the Dragon" Season 3.

After Prince Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) burned him in Season 2, the king of the Greens had to flee the Red Keep for his own safety as his brother seized power as Prince Regent.

In an online roundtable interview for the series, Tom reflected on how the burning changed his character.

"[It] was a nice shift because it felt like it ramped up his level of desperation. I feel like he's always been pretty desperate in his attempts to feel purposeful or feel kind of needed," he told GMA News Online.

"He feels hard done by, he feels like it's always, it's just his luck that this would happen and caused by his own brother," he added. "It was a nice extra layer to play that kind of increased level of rage and ambition and sort of fueled by revenge."

The actor credited the prosthetics of the burn scars in his face for helping him portray Aegon's new reality.

"It's a constant reminder because the pieces are so tight on my face, it's really difficult to move my head independently. So it sort of forces me to kind of move as a full unit, which is nice and just makes him feel helpless and broken," he said.

"And in many ways, it sort of forces me to play Aegon with a more of a steely determination to try and, you know, forget about that."

Tom said Aegon did not want to admit his weakened position.

"He's in denial, I think," he said. "Larys tries to convince him that, you know, he's in his club now and he's maimed for life and, you know, it's just something that he's gonna have to live with."

Lord Larys Strong (Matthew Needham) is the Lord of Harrenhal and the only remaining ally to Aegon. He has a clubfoot, which limits his mobility.

"House of the Dragon" Season 3 is now streaming on exclusively HBO Max with new episodes every Monday.

The series is about the conflict between two branches of the Targaryen dynasty, the Blacks and the Greens, for the Iron Throne. —CDC, GMA News
