South Korean police drops underage dating charge vs. Kim Soo Hyun due to lack of evidence — report

South Korean police has decided not to pursue an underage dating charge against actor Kim Soo Hyun over allegations involving his past relationship with the late actress Kim Sae Ron.

According to a report by Yonhap News Agency, sources have said that the Seoul Seongdong Police Station dropped the charge against Kim Soo Hyun due to lack of evidence.

The charge stemmed from claims made by Kim Sae Ron's family, who accused the actor of dating the actress while she was still a minor.

Kim Soo Hyun became the subject of controversy after HoverLab Inc. on YouTube alleged that he harassed the late actress Kim Sae Ron.

In April 2025, Kim Soo Hyun filed a civil suit against Kim Sae Ron's family and the operators of HoverLab.

He also denied allegations that he dated Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor. According to the actor, he dated the late actress six years ago for about a year, but not when she was underage.

"I did not date the deceased when she was a minor. And it is also not true that the deceased made a tragic choice because of me turning a blind eye," Kim Soo Hyun said, alluding to claims that he was partly responsible for her death.

Kim Sae Ron died by suicide in February 2025. She was 24.

The actress was known for her roles in the films "A Brand New Life" and "The Man From Nowhere." She also appeared in the series "Hi! School Love On," "Can You Hear my Heart," and "The Queen's Classroom," among others.

Meanwhile, Kim Soo Hyun is known for starring in "Queen of Tears," "It's Okay To Not Be Okay," and "My Love from the Star."
