UAAP: FEU's Cabs Cabonilas 'a future star of the Philippines,' says Sean Chambers

Far Eastern University’s Cabs Cabonilas delivered for Far Eastern University in his debut for the Tamaraws’ seniors team, posting 11 points, 12 rebounds, an assist, and a steal in their narrow 56-53 loss to Adamson University.

For Chambers, he was among the Morayta-based squad’s silver linings despite the loss, even describing him as a ‘future star of the Philippines.’

“Cabs is phenomenal. I felt he was the only one that played freely and that's who Cabs is. He played freely, he got great offensive rebounds, he had putbacks,” Chambers said.

“Cabs is really a future star of the Philippines. Not only in this league, but in the Philippines.”

The 20-year old Cabonilas, for his part, said he is just doing his job as instructed by Chambers.

“Everything that Coach Sean asks me to do, I'll just play that role. I trust in my teammates. They're helping me to improve,” Cabonilas said in Filipino.

FEU will return to action on September 26.

Cabonilas, for now, is already making his way to the global stage as part of the Gilas Pilipinas squad for the FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup which starts on Wednesday.

He will join the likes of Jedric Daa, Earl Medina, and Malcolm Tyler in the World Cup campaign.
