NCAA: Clutch Andrei Ugaddan, steady Aldous Torculas lift San Beda to payback win vs. JRU 

Andrei Ugaddan and Aldous Torculas took turns to help San Beda University escape their preseason tormentor Jose Rizal University, 65-62, in the NCAA Season 102 on Saturday at the Filoil Centre in San Juan.

The 6-foot-1 Ugaddan knocked down back-to-back triples to give defending champion San Beda a slim 63-62 lead before Torculas sank two free throws after drawing a foul off his own defensive rebound with 1:07 left in the fourth period.

The Heavy Bombers, usually composed in the endgame, then committed two costly turnovers by Lawrence Mangubat and Chris Hubilla. JRU still had a chance to steal the game, but Sean Salvador’s open triple went in and out as San Beda held on for the win and gave the Heavy Bombers their first loss of the season.

Torculas dazzled with a team-high 29 points alongside six rebounds and one assist while Ugaddan finished with 11 markers on perfect 3-of-3 shooting from downtown as San Beda got its payback over JRU, which swept them in the FilOil EcoOil Preseason finals.

The win also allowed the Red Lions to notch their second win in a row and improve to 2-1 while JRU slipped to a similar 2-1 card after opening its campaign with wins over powerhouse teams Mapua and Benilde.

Hubilla paced JRU with 14 points, including a pair of three-point plays in the fourth period that sent the Heavy Bombers to a 62-57 cushion before the huge San Beda run, while Jamhir Eligado chipped in 13 markers and seven boards.
