NCAA: Mangubat, Hubilla power JRU to rout of San Sebastian
The duo of Lawrence Mangubat and Chris Hubilla powered Jose Rizal University (JRU) past San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 102-78, in the NCAA Season 102 men’s basketball tournament on Friday at the Philsports Arena.
Mangubat poured in 20 points, including four three-pointers, while dishing out eight assists and adding three rebounds and three steals. Hubilla posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, along with three assists, as the Heavy Bombers notched their third consecutive win to improve to 5-2.
JRU began to pull away late in the second quarter, closing the half with a three-pointer from Sean Salvador and a basket by Jamhir Eligado to take a 51-44 lead into the break.
The Heavy Bombers carried their momentum into the second half, maintaining control to secure the lopsided victory over the Golden Stags.
Jalen Garcia also scored 20 points for JRU, while Eligado chipped in 12.
Niel Castor led San Sebastian with 17 points, while Ralph Gabat and Dash Cuya added 12 and 10 points, respectively. The Golden Stags remained winless after seven games.
