NBA: Heat's Spoelstra, Spurs' Popovich named Coaches of the Month for February

The NBA announced Thursday (Friday, PHL time) via press release that the Miami Heat' Erik Spoelstra and the San Antonio Spurs' Gregg Popovich have been named as February's Coaches of the Month for the Eastern Conference and Western Conference, respectively.   The Filipino-American Spoelstra guided the Heat to a record of 11-2 in the month of February, falling only to the Milwaukee Bucks and the Orlando Magic in that span. Helping the Heat produce their league-best record for the month was an eight-game winning streak that saw Miami dispatch all of their opponents by at least double figures. Also within that span was a back-to-back-to-back that the Heat were able to overcome, which made them the first team to accomplish that feat since the Phoenix Suns back in 1979.   Popovich's Spurs though, tied the Heat's record for the month, as they too went 11-2. San Antonio won their first ten games of the period, part of an 11-game win streak that ended only when Popovich decided to voluntarily sit stars Tim Duncan and Tony Parker against the Portland Trail Blazers. At the same time, San Antonio had just four home games in the month, going 3-1 in those matches.   Also considered for the award were Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau (11-3), the New York Knicks' Mike D'Antoni (10-5), Lionel Hollins (9-4) of the Memphis Grizzlies and Scott Brooks of the Oklahoma City Thunder (12-3). – GMA News
