PHL Patriots unveil new uniform to honor WWII heroes
The Philippine Patriots unveiled their new uniform on Monday with the word "Kagitingan" (Valour) emblazoned in their white jersey as a tribute to the greatness of Filipino freedom fighters during World War II. The Patriots will wear the commemorative uniforms during the team's home games against Indonesia Warriors, Saigon Heat and Westports Malaysia Dragons in the 3rd ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City. The Philippines commemorate April 9 where thousands of Filipino, Chinese and American prisoners of war died during the 1942 Bataan Death March due to starvation, dehydration and diseases. The Patriots will still wear their traditional black and red uniforms when they take on the San Miguel Beermen on Saturday. The Patriots, who clinched the first semis berth after an 84-78 win over the the Bangkok Cobras last week, hold a league-best 13-2 win-loss record. This is not the first time that an ABL team will be wearing a special uniform. On February 1, the Singapore Slingers donned pink jerseys in their 81-67 victory over the San Miguel Beermen at the Singapore Indoor Stadium as part of the World Cancer Awareness Day celebrations. — JVP, GMA News
